Monday Jan 24, 2011 - from Sicily we headed north to the island of Corsica. Instead of the buffet, we decided to eat breakfast at one of the restaurants. It was still buffet style but with lots of staff to 'get you more' without you getting up for it. The bacon and eggs are similar to what we are used to. The sausage is different but good, and the hash browns are in triangles but taste the same. 
Today's port is the city of Ajaccio which is on the island of Corsica in France. Ajaccio is the capitol of Corsica located between France and Italy. Corsica is a small island (32 sq miles) and it's about half the size of Catalina Island (75 sq miles) off California's southern coast. Here is a pic from the ship in the dock.

We left the ship and ventured by foot around the city and enjoyed exploring on our own terms. We had a few maps and made sure we saw a few of the 'points of interest'. Ajaccio is mostly known as the birth place for Napoleon Bonaparte. There are several statues of him throughout the island of Corsica. 
The statue was in Diamant Square, where this pretty arbor was located. There was several little places to get food and so we got some lunch and ate here.
We walked around and saw some old churches and lots of statues. Then we headed towards the dock area for some pics of us.
We got back to the boat and got ready for our first formal night. Before our trip Adam signed us up to be members of their 'Costa Club', which gives discounts on board and other fun stuff. One of the perks was a special 'meet the crew' cocktail party. We were introduced to the captain and all the executive staff. The staff was constantly serving champagne, some type of wine, fruit punch (for kids) and water, I had several glasses of the fruit punch (it was free!).

Dinner was extra special, instead of 5 courses it was 6! I decided to be a bit adventurous and I tried this seafood appetizer. It was like a quiche but not as thick, and it had these little octoupus-thingy's in it. I ate a few of them and really not a fan.
