Sunday Jan 23, 2011 - from Civitavecchia Italy we headed south where our first stop was in Palermo, Sicily. We were able to explore this port from noon until 7pm. This is the view of the dock below where all the vultures, er, I mean taxis were waiting. We ate breakfast on the upper deck of the ship overlooking the city.
Adam and I hate taking taxis, they're over priced. We prefer to walk or take public transportation which are really easy and reasonably priced. Once we got off the boat after breakfast we decided to walk around and see some of the places of interest. The weather was cold and rained on us twice, we forgot to pack an umbrella but we made the most of it and still had a great time.

Teatro Massimo (Greatest Theatre) built in 1897. We went inside and the ornate decor was amazing. 
Cattedrale (Catherdral of Palermo)
The Cathedral was amazing. The above pic is from Wikipedia, the below two are mine. Due to the rain it was hard to get good pics. The exterior was beautiful, to see the interior was 20 euros each and we felt it wasn't worth it. 
We walked a lot today and saw several amazing fountains, statues and gardens. The people of Palermo were friendly and helpful, most spoke English. As we were heading back to the ship the light rain became a downpour, so we ducked inside a Gelato Shop (lucky me!) to wait out the rain. After I enjoyed some chocolate gelato and the rain stopped we continued back to the ship.
We went back to our rooms to shower and rest (Adam on his laptop, while I napped). Here we are at dinner Sunday night, another 5 course meal, our dinner was the second sitting and started at 9pm.
